Airport terminal boost for Marrakech tourism
Morocco’s main leisure tourism destination, Marrakech, is an even more attractive proposition for international visitors following the opening of a new terminal at the city’s Menara Airport.
The eye-catching new terminal doubles the airport’s capacity to nine million passengers per year. Designed by renowned architect Abdou Lahlou the terminal is built over three levels and covers a total area of 67,000 square metres. Its facilities include separate areas for long- and medium/short-haul flights, and a brand new Oasis Lounge.
The project, which was completed last month, also saw the refurbishment of the airport’s existing terminal, as well as a number of improvements to general facilities, retail and F&B offerings.
Marrakech Menara Airport is Morocco’s second busiest airport after Casablanca, and its expansion forms part of the government’s plan to increase annual international visitor arrivals to 20 million by 2020.
