Uganda reduces tourism visa fees by 50 per cent

The Government of Uganda has reduced visa fees from US$100 to US$50 with effect from 22 July 2016 as it aims to boost tourism in the country.

The move comes as Uganda implements a newly introduced e-visa that requires visitors to apply online and receive an approval notification prior to travel. Visas are then issued on arrival. This reduction applies to single entry (tourist) visas only.

Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, said: “Uganda listens carefully to stakeholders – especially in the tourism sector – and we respond. We have made this decision so that we enable more tourist to enjoy holidays, leisure and safaris in our beautiful country at a much lower cost than most other places in the world.”

Tim Henshall, representative for Uganda Tourism in the UK, said: “This is a great decision by Uganda in moving towards a more competitive visa rate, and ultimately making it easier and cheaper for tourists to visit the country.

“As well as their famous mountain gorillas, Uganda offers great safaris, fantastic birding, world-class hiking, stunning scenery and fascinating cultures.”

Tourists can arrange their visas online or contacting your local tour operator for more information.
