Vietnam Airlines and Aeroflot begin codesharing
Vietnam Airlines and Aeroflot have started codesharing on domestic and international routes in Vietnam and Russia.
The move is designed to offer passengers enhanced connectivity and seamless connections between several domestic destinations in Russia and Vietnam, as well as promoting stronger commercial ties between the two countries.
Flights operated by Vietnam Airlines include the route Hanoi – Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang as well as Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc, Nha Trang. At the same time, flights operated by Aeroflot include the route Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Moscow (Sheremetyevo) – St Petersburg, Ufa and Krasnodar.
The code share agreement follows the signing of a Memorandum between the two flag carriers in 2018 and the announcement that Vietnam Airlines will move operations to Sheremetyevo Airport in July this year.
Airport growth
The decision was driven by the excellent transfer services, speed and flexibility at Russia’s fastest-growing airport and its status as the main hub for Skyteam member airlines.
Le Hong Ha, executive vice president of Vietnam Airlines, said: “The commencement of our partnership with Aeroflot allows us to unleash the combined power of our networks and boost our presence in the region.
“It offers travellers greater choice and flexibility when planning their trips. We are thrilled to welcome more passengers from Russia on board Vietnam Airlines flights to experience the four-star service quality and explore the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations.”
Vietnam Airlines offers three direct Moscow-Hanoi flights per week, operated on state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Aeroflot operates nine flights per week on routes between Moscow and Vietnam with a daily flight to Hanoi and a twice-weekly service to Ho Chi Minh City.
25 years since its first flight, the Vietnamese carrier has transported more than 1.6 million passengers between Vietnam and Russia. In 2018, Russia was ranked as the sixth largest source of international visitors to Vietnam with the number of arrivals predicted to increase to one million by 2020.
