Increase in low-season UK visitors to Palma

The Balearic capital of Palma has recorded a significant increase in low season visitors from the UK.

From October 2018 to April 2019, the Mallorcan destination welcomed 134,725 visitors from the UK, representing a nine per cent increase compared to the same period in 2018 when 123,590 British travellers visited the Mediterranean city.

From January to April 2019, Palma also welcomed a total of 226,974 national and international visitors representing a 17.8 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2018.

The rise in visitor numbers during the winter months reflects a growing appetite for cultural city breaks rather than beach holidays and contributes to the tourism board’s objective of growing out-of-season travellers.

Boasting a vast tourist offering outside of the high season, Palma acts as a driving force to encourage low season travel to the island of Mallorca, with many visitors opting to use Palma as a base to explore other destinations on the island.

Under the slogan ‘Passion for Palma’, the tourist campaign focuses on four key themes including gastronomy, sport, shopping and culture, with the aim of strengthening Palma’s position as an attractive, year-round city break destination.
