Meliá to open first hotel in Melaka
Spanish hotel group Meliá Hotels International has announced the signing of Meliá Melaka, a new property located in the heart of Melaka, Malaysia. The hotel will be the group’s fourth property in Malaysia, and first in Melaka.
Managed by the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, and owned by Haleton Group, a multi-award winner and a leader in Malaysia’s property development, investment and asset management industry, the hotel is scheduled to open in 2020.
The centrally located hotel will offer 250 rooms of different options including standard, supreme and deluxe. The property will include a Sky Pool and a rooftop garden on the 28th floor, offering panoramic views of the Malaysian Peninsula.
As one of the largest mega-corporations in the region, Haleton Group has successfully integrated core businesses in project development and construction, commercial and asset management, retail leasing and hospitality divisions.
Ken Lin, chief executive officer of Haleton Developments Sdn Bhd, said: “We are confident that Melia Hotels International will contribute a tremendous boost to the tourism industry of Melaka while elevating the City to greater heights with their Spanish heritage and world-renowned hospitality standards.”

Bernardo Cabot Estarellas, senior vice president Asia Pacific of Meliá Hotels International, added: “The expansion of our Malaysia portfolio in the center of Melaka is another important milestone for our presence in Asia Pacific.
“Our company has an impeccable track record and has been an established leader in the resort segment for decades; coupled with our extensive hotel management expertise, we’ve always been the top pick for demanding hotel owners.”
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Melaka has a wealth of history and is well connected to a network of major highways, making it easily accessible from major cities such as Kuala Lumpur (1.5 hours) and Singapore (2.5 hours). It is set to become even more accessible with the introduction of daily flights from Guangzhou, southern China.
Melaka is a popular weekend retreat destination for Singaporeans and Indonesians. Modern Melaka, building on its legacy as one of the region’s premier trading ports, is also increasingly attracting the attention of savvy investors from both local and international markets.
