Most Brits haven’t taken their dream holiday
If you’ve been putting off the holiday of your dreams, then you’re not alone. More than half (58 per cent) of Brits have never been on their dream holiday, according to a new survey.
So what’s preventing us from escaping to the sunshine? A nationwide poll commissioned by online travel agent Travel Republic revealed 59% of Brits say financial commitments such as paying bills and clearing debts are the biggest reasons for missing out on their ultimate getaway.
64% of respondents said the main reason they had not been on the holiday of their dreams was because they couldn’t afford it, and 17% said they wished they had gone when they were younger and had more time.
The research also shows that work ambitions came above holidays, with almost half (49%) respondents admitting to prioritising their career over travelling.
The top destinations Brits said they would love to have visited, but haven’t been to yet, are:
- The Caribbean (25%)
- Iceland (25%)
- USA (17%)
- Mexico (16%) and
- Bali (16%)
Naomi Wilkinson, marketing director at Travel Republic, said: “The research highlights that everyday life can often get in the way of booking holidays to our dream destinations. We hope our winter sun sale will show that visiting these aspirational destinations is possible, and it shouldn’t break the bank!”
