Finnair strengthens position in Germany

Finnair has increased its capacity to several existing destinations in Germany as part of the airline’s ongoing growth strategy.

From 26 March 2018, Finnair will add a fourth daily frequency between Helsinki and Berlin, while additional capacity will be added to the German capital for the upcoming winter season by flying the route with a larger aircraft. In total, Finnair will add more than 145,000 seats between both cities between now and the end of the summer 2018 season.

Finnair is also adding capacity on many of its existing routes in Germany – in total, its capacity to the country will increase by 24 per cent for 2018.

The airline currently flies daily to five German destinations – Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. It will also start flying daily to Stuttgart from 23 April 2018. Finnair’s flights to Germany have had a strong demand from customers travelling to and from Asia, Russia, the United States and the Baltics.

‘Strong footprint’

Juha Järvinen, the airline’s chief commercial officer, said: “We are a growing airline and we are looking forward to expanding our already strong footprint in Germany, which is a strategic focus market for us at Finnair.

“We have also seen steady growth in demand for travel between Germany and Asia which is a great opportunity for us given our quick and efficient connecting hub at Helsinki Airport. In the past year alone, we have also seen strong double digit sales growth between Asia and Germany, with travel to and from Japan especially strong.”

Travel between Asia and Europe is an important and growing market segment for Finnair, which flies to 19 destinations in Asia and is the largest European carrier flying to Japan, with routes to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. It also operates to seven gateways in Greater China, with 38 weekly flights during the summer 2018 season. Finnair flies non-stop to Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Xian. Finnair is also opening a new route to Nanjing on 13 May 2018.

Finnair is a member of the oneworld alliance and operates a joint business to Japan with British Airways, Iberia and Japan Airlines, itt is also part of a joint business over the Atlantic with American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia.
