Meliá Hotels International has announced its fourth property to its UK portfolio with the addition of INNSIDE Newcastle, which due to open in 2019.

The new property will be created from the redevelopment of a vacant office building on the banks of the River Tyne, providing exceptional views over the river and its famous bridges. The INNSIDE by Meliá brand has grown from eight to 40 hotels in only five years, and is a great example of the current ‘bleisure’ hotel trend, offering an innovative alternative for work trippers seeking to combine leisure and work, offering creative meeting spaces, 24/7 exercise classes, unlimited Wi-Fi and wellness areas.

The new hotel’s owner is Union Property Services, a leading real estate group in Newcastle, which owns commercial outlets throughout the United Kingdom, managing hotels and shopping centres. The company has granted Meliá the management of the hotel for the next 25 years.

Raj Sehgal, managing director of Union Property Services, said the project will be a huge step towards Newcastle’s Riverside transformation, and a “new hospitality benchmark within the city of Newcastle”.

Gabriel Escarrer, vice chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, said: “Of all of our brands, INNSIDE by Meliá has had the strongest growth over the past five years due to its international appeal. This has attracted investors and hotel owners all over the world to the brand.

“We excited to add this hotel to our portfolio, offering visitors to Newcastle an unbeatable experience and location with INNSIDE hotels’ informal and efficient service combined with cutting-edge technology.”
