Meliá ups Portugal presence with new hotel in Porto
Meliá Hotels International is to add a new hotel in Porto, as it continues to grow its presence in Portugal.
The new Meliá Porto property will appear under the under the Spanish hotel group’s Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, and become its 14th operating hotel in Portugal with another four in the process of opening, taking the total number of rooms operated to around 2,600. Portugal, is the group’s third largest European market by number of hotels, behind only Spain and Germany.
Meliá Porto will open in 2021 and be located on Avenida de Boavista, one of the most dynamic parts of the city, with residential and commercial areas, a wide range of leisure and dining options, and many tourist attractions such as the Monument to the Peninsular War, the House of Music, the Bom Sucesso Market or the Serralves Foundation, location of the Contemporary Art Museum designed by Zisa Vieira, one of the most famous Portuguese architects. The airport is also only 12km away.
The hotel will provide 180 rooms, all featuring the characteristic attributes of Meliá and the exclusive The Level service, providing a superior room and service experience for the most discerning travellers.

Porto has more than 1.7 million residents in its metropolitan area and is the second largest city in Portugal. Located in the north of the country next to the mouth of the River Duero, its historic centre was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and its proximity to Spain makes it a very attractive destination for the Spanish, its biggest source of international travellers.
