Meliá unveils its first hotel in Montenegro

Meliá Hotels International has continued its global expansion by announcing its first hotel in Montenegro, near the millenary city of Budva.

Meliá Budva will be the latest addition to the Spanish group’s portfolio is a new hotel on the Adriatic coast of Montenegro, a destination currently enjoying a tourism boom. The move is designed to help the company to strengthen its already dominant position in the Mediterranean.

The hotel will be operated under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand and is located in the municipality of Budva, an ancient city on the Adriatic founded by the Greeks in the fifth century and often compared to the popular city of Dubrovnik.

Budva is not only one of the greatest cultural attractions in the country, it also boasts some of the best beaches in Montenegro, including the famous turquoise waters of Petrovac, a booming family tourism destination and home to the future Meliá Budva, which is scheduled to open later this summer.

The popularity of the destination has also grown over recent times thanks to an increase in leisure activities, sports, restaurants and nightlife, making the resort a Mediterranean holiday paradise.

Meliá Budva is one of the new hotels in Petrovac and will provide 114 rooms, swimming pools, sundecks, children’s club, various dining options and The Level service, an attribute of the Meliá brand that features superior rooms and a range of exclusive services for guests seeking a more premium experience.

Gabriel Escarrer, Meliá’s executive vice president and chief executive officer, stated: “for Meliá, the opening of this hotel is a natural step forward in our growth in markets where our brands have great potential to add value thanks to our success and experience in the resort hotel industry.

“We are very proud to add this magnificent hotel to our portfolio and continue to bolster our leadership in the Mediterranean.”
