Pine Cliffs Resort is the choice of champions
Leading Portuguese lifestyle destination, Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort, which is affiliated to RCI, has hosted a number of high profile sporting events to boost the resorts profile as well as tourism in the region.
In February the luxurious Algarve property hosted its sixth annual Winners Cup, which brings together winners of the resort’s weekly golf and tennis tournaments from the previous year, with more than 100 previous guests invited back to compete against each other for the prestigious Winners Cup titles.
Standards were high as players competed for a host of prizes provided by over 48 premium sponsors, including Algarve Classic Cars, Calvin Klein Golf and Wines & Co. Eileen Farren came first in the final 18-hole stableford golf competition, winning a seven-night stay at Grosvenor House, Dubai; while Harvey Hunter triumphed in the tennis tournament and was rewarded with a weeks stay at Westin Paris-Vendôme.
Weekly tournaments
Pine Cliffs Resort stages weekly golf and tennis tournaments for guests throughout the year, and each year all the weekly winners are invited back to take part in the annual Winners Cup tournament. The tennis tournament was held at the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, which features five floodlit tennis courts (two clay and three all-weather hard courts), while the 18-hole stableford tournament took place at the resorts own nine-hole clifftop golf course.
Guests could also enjoy the resorts swimming pools, health club and wellness centre; the Porto Pirata childrens village; and numerous boutiques and shops. In addition to the sporting contest, participants, families and friends enjoyed the Winners Cup Village, where event sponsors offered an array of sporty experiences – including the Scuba Dive Baptism in the Pine Cliffs Goes Active indoor pool with Easydivers – and treats including wine, chocolate and liqueur tastings.
The weekend raised 1,500 for local charity Associação Humanitária Social de Albufeira and guests were treated to a fun-filled flash mob performance by a number of the children the charity supports. The weekend reached its glamorous conclusion with a vintage-themed awards ceremony and gala dinner, which saw the 200 participants and guests perform the Charleston. Jumping for joy
The resort also sponsored this months Pine Cliffs Grand Prix Cup, part of Europes largest show jumping competition, the Vilamoura Atlantic Tour 2016. One of the worlds most respected and lucrative equestrian events, the jamboree runs until 3 April and includes a number of high profile competitions.
More than 1,000 horses and 300 riders from 27 countries are taking part in the overall event, which is of particular importance this year as it includes three competitions that count towards the World Show Jumping Championship, taking place in Gothenburg in August 2017.
