Skistar adds Austrian resort to expanding portfolio
Skistar is to add the Austrian ski resort of St. Johann in Tirol to its range of ski destinations starting in winter 2016/2017.
Sankt Johann in Tirol is a charming ski resort ideal for families, situated in the heart of the Austrian Tyrol. The destination is ideal for families looking for a relaxing holiday and a leisurely pace on the ski slopes. The short travel time, along with a wide selection of restaurants and small hotels near the ski area, makes St. Johann in Tirol ideal for visitors of all ages.
The resort is served by a total of 17 lifts, which take skiers up to the top of the ski area 1,604 metres above sea level, where there are 43km of broad slopes on the north side of the Kitzbüheler Horn. In addition, St. Johann has large children’s and beginners’ areas, making it an ideal for families and skiers with a passion for carving.
With three international airports within a radius of 150km (Munich, Innsbruck and Salzburg) and a railway station in the centre of the village, St. Johann is easily accessible from most major cities in Europe.
SkiStar is one of the Nordic region’s largest and most established hospitality brands with resorts in Sweden and Norway. It entered the shared-ownership industry in November through SkiStar Vacation Club, which has resorts affiliated to RCI. In April 2016, SkiStar became the majority shareholder of St. Johanner Bergbahnen GmbH.
Skistar CEO Mats Årjes, said: “Now, in addition to Scandinavian destinations, we can offer our guests a European ski resort. We plan to market St. Johann to a European audience as a SkiStar destination with a focus on family skiing. We see this new venture in the Alpine resort of St. Johann as an exciting development for SkiStar.
“With our knowledge and concepts, the destination’s location and an ongoing hotel expansion in the area, we see good development potential.”
