Top trends for British holidaymakers in 2018
The Turkish resort of Antalya, the sunshine island of Majorca and the exciting ‘Holy City’ of Rome are among the top destinations for British holidaymakers this year, according to a report.
The UK’s second largest tour operator Jet2holidays examined its bookings data to reveal some key holiday trends for 2018, including the up-and-coming destinations that Britons are flocking to, the most popular family getaways, and the top hotspots for city break bookings.
Looking at booking patterns year on year, the company has predictied what’s hot in the holiday stakes with some interesting shifts in destination choices.
Turkey rejuvenated
Britons know a good deal when they see it, as bookings to Turkey are seeing a huge surge for 2018 thanks to its range of accommodation, culture, endless sun and great value. On the back of that demand, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have responded by adding an extra 600,000 seats for 2018. The company is also reporting a four-fold increase in bookings to Antalya, with Bodrum and Dalaman seeing bookings more than double compared to the previous year.
It’s not just Turkey bringing in the crowds. Italy and Croatia are also seeing huge growth, as are the Greek islands and Cyprus. There is also a trend of customers looking to explore new and undiscovered regions, demonstrated by a growth in bookings to Costa de Almeria and the Greek Island of Halkidiki.

When it comes to family holidays, beach breaks are still prevalent with UK families looking to maximise their exposure to sun, sea and sand. The top 10 Jet2holidays family bookings destinations for Summer 18 are:

- Alicante (Costa Blanca)
- Lanzarote
- Faro
- Reus (Costa Dorada)
- Gran Canaria
- Fuerteventura
- Ibiza
- Malaga (Costa Del Sol)

In terms of city breaks, British travellers recognise the attraction of a quick, easy break to beautiful and historic European cities that are just on their doorstep. The Top 10 destinations according to Jet2CityBreaks data are:
