Turkish Airlines forced to cancel flights, park aircraft

Turkish Airlines cancelled a range of flights and put 30 of its planes into parking positions due to a falling passenger numbers in the wake of economic pressures and terror attacks.

According to the Turkish Dogan News Agency, some 12 Airbus A330-200 planes have been parked in Antalya and four Airbus A320s in Ankara’s Esenboga Airport, but the number of planes withdrawn from service is set to reach 30.

In addition, the carrier has cancelled flights to a total of 22 destinations, 17 of which were international, due to decreasing demand.

The cancelled international destinations include Batna and Tlemcen in Algeria, Alborg in Denmark, Bordeaux in France, Karlsruhe-Baden, Freidrichshafen and Münster in Germany, Kermanshah in Iran, Genoa and Pisa in Italy, Aqaba in Jordan, Osh in Kyrgyzstan, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Kano in Nigeria, al-Qassim in Saudi Arabia, Khujand in Tajikistan and Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukranie.

In a move to lower costs in the winter season, the carrier has also cancelled domestic flights to Eskişehir, Tokat, Edremit, Uşak and Siirt.
