Report highlights success of Christel House India

Christel House India has shared the positive findings of a first-of-its-kind efficacy study carried out at charity’s school in Bangalore.

The 16-week study, which was carried out by education and CSR domain experts from global management consulting firm, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP, validates the charity’s approach to sustainable transformation and breaking the cycle of poverty.

According to the study, a student starting primary education in Christel House Bangalore is eight times more likely to successfully complete the school-leaving (Class 12) examination and 19 times more likely to graduate from a tertiary education programme compared to a government school student.

The study also examined other NGOs and government schools serving a similar demographic. Students at Christel House Bangalore are over 25 per cent more likely to pass the Class 10 examination, and 50 per cent more likely to pass the Class 12 examination than students of government schools serving a similar demographic.

Key findings

Other key findings of the study included:

  • Analysis of teacher-related statistics of Christel House Bangalore revealed a better-qualified base, with higher attendance records and a lower attrition rate compared to national benchmarks for government and private schools.
  • Feedback on Christel House Bangalore from various stakeholders was generally positive on all aspects including quality of teaching, infrastructure and support programmes.
  • Christel House Bangalore’s cost per student is higher than that for a private school due to a lower student-teacher ratio, but the cost to produce one PUC graduate is far lower than that for government schools.

RCI and the timeshare industry’s charity of choice, Christel House is a not for profit organisation that provides education, nutrition and healthcare to children from the poorest of the poor families, to break the cycle of poverty.
