Dominican named Caribbean’s best golf destination

The Dominican Republic has been recognised as the ‘Golf Destination for Latin America and the Caribbean’ for 2019 by the International Association of Tour Operators of Golf (IAGTO).

The popular Caribbean destination has won the award for the fourth time, having recognised the Dominican Republic as the main destination for travel in this market segment in 2009, 2013 and 2016.

Magaly Toribio, marketing consultant for the country’s Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), said that it had worked hard to establish the Dominican Republic as the main destination for golf, acknowledging that the sport is an integral part of its tourism offering

“We are proud that our hard work and impressive infrastructure are recognised by IAGTO as the Best Golf Destination in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2019,” he said.

Evelyn Paiewonky, director of E-marketing Mitur, received the distinction on behalf of Minister Francisco Javier García, and noted that the country has excellent infrastructure, as well as courses, with 86 holes that overlook the sea and 39 by the ocean.

Some 26 challenging and impressive golf courses that helped earn Dominican Republic the accolade of golf capital of the Caribbean. The choice was made by professionals from the tourism and golf travel industry: senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media professionals. They were also issued by members of the public – the consumers of golf tourism.
