Oman Air launches direct flights to China

Oman Air launches its first non-stop flights to mainland China this month, with a new service to Guangzhou, the capital and largest city of Guangdong Province.

First unveiled in 2014, the new route will become the first direct air link between Oman and China, which the airline claims will help to strengthen the political, economic and social links between the two countries. The route will be launched with four weekly flights using a twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft.

Paul Gregorowitsch, CEO of Oman Air, said Guangzhou was a perfect addition to Oman Air’s network.

Mixed demand

“Guangzhou, the 54th destination on the WY network, will be an added value [service], meeting the demand of the traders and businessmen of the two countries, as well as tradesmen from different neighbouring countries,” he said.

“The operation will initially offer four flights per week, and we are confident that this service will be a great success. We look forward to a long and prosperous presence within the Chinese market.”

Outbound flights will depart Muscat International Airport on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 10:15 and arrive at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport at 21:00. The return services will leave China on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 06:25 and land in Muscat at 11:00.
