Iran Air seals major deal with Airbus

Iran Air has signed a firm order for 100 Airbus aircraft, following an initial commitment signed a year ago.

The finalised deal, which was penned by Farhad Parvaresh, Iran Air’s chairman and CEO, and Airbus’ president and CEO, Fabrice Bregier, comprises 46 Airbus A320-series aircraft, 38 A330-series – including the new A330neo – and 16 A350s.

Parvaresh said the order marked a “decisive phase” in the airline’s expansion and modernisation strategy.

“I am gratified that this new round of cooperation with Airbus has come to fruition and brought us closer with more practical steps to follow for Iran Air’s fleet renewal,” he said.

“Iran Air considers this agreement an important step towards a stronger international presence in civil aviation. We hope this success signals to the world that the commercial goals of Iran and its counterparts are better achieved with international cooperation and collaboration.”

The Airbus deal also covers pilot training, airport operations and air traffic management, in an effort to modernise Iran’s aviation sector following the relaxation of sanctions against the country.
