First single-use plastic free hotel launches in Asia
Asian hotelier Akaryn Hotel Group is leading the fight against plastic pollution by opening a single-use plastic free hotel in Bangkok.
The company aims to become a single-use plastic free hotel group by 2020, and its newest opening, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok, launching in May 2018, is set to lead the charge in this initiative.
The hotel group is responding to devastating statistics that show eight million tonnes of plastic is thrown away each year, effectively creating a seventh continent spread over 3.4 million square miles in the Pacific Ocean.
With consumers beginning to seek out responsible businesses that take care of the planet, such as supermarkets that plan for plastic-free aisles and coffee brands that ditch cup lids, Akaryn Hotel Group (AHG) www.akarynhotelgroup.com is now following suit.
Philanthropy is deeply rooted in its collection of Thai hotels, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok makes eco-led choices, with real effort made to source glass bottle containers and no single-use plastic used in the bars.

AHG has also gone above and beyond this initiative by offering a solution to guests on the go, in the form of stylish akyra stainless steel water bottles, which are handed to guests on arrival and can be refilled anytime during their stay. Self-service drinkable water will also be conveniently located on every floor to ease the refill.
In addition, bathroom and toiletry products are presented in locally manufactured celadon containers filled with essential oils-based products. Bio-degradable bin bags are used in room and shopping bags can be borrowed from the wardrobes to encourage guests to refuse plastic bags when indulging in some Bangkok retail-therapy.
The akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok offers re-imagined urban accommodation in the heart of the city. Ideally located on Sukhumvit Soi 20, an area known for its buzzing atmosphere, green recreation spaces and fine dining, the50-room property offers guests 30-55 square metre accommodations infused with Thai design.
The downtown property also features the Siam Soul Café and a rooftop bar where guests can sip cocktails at the pool bar and relax on stylish sun loungers and cabanas.
