Meliá to open new hotel in the capital of Albania

Meliá Hotels International has announced the addition of Meliá Tirana – a new hotel in the capital of Albania, which is due to open in 2021.

The new hotel will further strengthen the company’s position in the Mediterranean, a region where it has earned significant competitive advantages over more than six decades of operations.

Thanks to new measures taken by Albania to stimulate inbound travel, Meliá aims to leverage the exciting opportunities for hotel development with a benchmark hotel for international travel in the Albanian capital, applying all of its experience in pioneering destinations and its international brand recognition in the Mediterranean.

Meliá’s leadership of the resort hotel industry has been a key factor in its growth and the extension of its influence to other Mediterranean destinations.

Meliá Tirana will form part of an iconic architectural project in the heart of the city, giving a boost to its positioning as a state-of-the-art hotel, symbolic of the new superior-quality hotel facilities the country wishes to promote.

The building will combine different shapes and forms in its façade and house residential, commercial and office space, all located in the centre of the city, a short distance from the main tourist attractions such as the Clock Tower, the Cathedral or the National History Museum, as well as the main business areas and government headquarters.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2021 and will occupy the upper floors of the building, providing 140 rooms, a restaurant, bar, meeting rooms and a modern sky lobby with panoramic city views.

The hotel will become Meliá’s second in Albania, as it expects to open the Meliá Durres, a five-star resort in Gjiri Lalzit Bay, north of Durres, the country’s second most important city, in 2020.

This hotel is currently under construction and will provide 400 rooms and extensive facilities to make it the best hotel in the area, with eight restaurants, several swimming pools, spa, fitness centre, beach club, convention centre and car park.

Gabriel Escarrer, vice president and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, said: “With a privileged location on the Adriatic Sea, excellent climate, infrastructure under development, incentives for investment and a rich cultural heritage, Albania has all the ingredients to become a top travel destination in the Mediterranean, and Meliá has a lot to offer and contribute thanks to its experience and knowledge of the market.”
