Spain tops best countries for tourists
Spain has topped the rankings in a guide to countries that provide the best welcome to foreign tourists.
The World Economic Forum’s latest Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), which effectively ranks nations based on how accommodating and welcoming they are to foreign visitors, lists four European nations – Spain, France, Germany and the UK – in the top five.
The top 10 reads like this:
- Spain
- France
- Germany
- Japan
- United Kingdom
- United States
- Australia
- Italy
- Canada
- Switzerland
The list has been created based on 14 pillars, made up of four groups; Enabling environment, Travel & Tourism Policy and Enabling Conditions, Infrastructure and Natural and Cultural Resources.
Enabling Environment takes into account the business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, human resources and labour market, and information and communication technology (ICT) readiness.
Travel & Tourism Policy and Enabling Conditions includes the country’s prioritisation of travel and tourism, international openness, price competitiveness, and environmental sustainability.
Infrastructure judges destinations based on the infrastructure of their air transport, ground and port, and tourist service.
Natural and Cultural Resources analyses natural resources, and cultural resources and business travel for a region.
